How can local news reach more people? Including those who have so far shown little interest in what’s happening on their doorstep. Jasmin Baake shows how digital formats and AI can open up new avenues. And she’s bringing along her own chatbot, ‘Bo-GPT’, to demonstrate this.

Many people notice the changes taking place in their city. Others, however, hardly notice them at all. Where do these differences come from? That is exactly what Jasmin Baake is researching.
She wonders: Why is it that some people are interested in local news, while others are hard to reach? Can AI help make the news easier to understand? For example, the chatbot “Bo-GPT,” developed by Jasmin Baake herself? Together, we’ll explore how digital tools can help people better understand their city so they can actively shape the place where they live.
This event is part of the lecture series “Wissensrunde Utopien” (Knowledge Roundtable Utopias) organized by vhs, the city library, and UniverCity Bochum e.V. on the way to the House of Knowledge. The event will be conducted in German.
