Bochum Welcomes international Students

Every semester, students from all over the world make their way to Bochum, helping shape the city into what it is today: vibrant, welcoming, full of life and an international hub of science and academia in the Ruhr region. This unique mix defines the spirit of our city. And once you arrive in Bochum, you rarely stay a stranger for long. We’re here to make sure it stays that way!

Bochum thrives on its people, their openness, and the many paths that come together here. That’s exactly the special spirit we want to celebrate together with the City of Bochum and the Welcome Office Bochum: The very first BoWelcome Week will take place from November 2 to 7, 2026

Program highlights

The event kicks off with a personal welcome from the Mayor, followed by an informative room tour of the Welcome Office Bochum. International students will receive valuable information and a first orientation to help them get started in Bochum.

During your visit to the City Archives and the Art Museum, you’ll gain fascinating insights into the history, culture, and development of our city. You’ll also get a glimpse into Bochum’s vibrant start-up scene and discover exciting opportunities to turn your own ideas into reality. We’ll take you behind the scenes of the Historic Town Hall and show you places that shape our city.

Last but not least, you’ll meet some local initiatives, have the opportunity to exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere, and make your first real connections.

The event is open to all newcomers who have recently arrived in Bochum and are excited to discover their new city.

Participation is free of charge for all students.

Registration opens on October 1, 2026. But don’t wait too long, as places for the individual program items are limited!
