Volunteering promotes social cohesion and strengthens democracy. However, civic engagement is increasingly becoming an area that must be protected against the influence of undemocratic forces. The Basic Law, and in particular the free democratic basic order, set out the framework for value-based engagement geared towards the common good.
With ‘Bochum bleibt beteiligt’, we are sending a message of democracy, volunteering and social cohesion in the city on the 77th anniversary of the Basic Law. We are raising the following questions:
What does the Basic Law have to do with our everyday lives? What values underpin a democratic society? And how can we work together to foster a sense of community?
The day of action brings together the academic community, civil society and the wider community, creating a space for people to meet and exchange ideas. With workshops, talks and hands-on activities, the event invites people to find out more, join in the discussion and gain new perspectives on the importance of civic engagement and democratic values in Bochum.
What to expect:
Free workshops on ‘Democracy Fitness’ with Jens Feddersen
Interactive activities in the public space in front of the RUB Blue Square building
