Volunteering promotes social cohesion and strengthens democracy. Yet civic engagement is an area increasingly threatened by undemocratic forces and has therefore be protected from this influence. The Constitution, and in particular the free democratic basic order, provide the framework for value-based engagement focused on the common good.
With “Bochum bleibt beteiligt”, we are sending a message of democracy, volunteering and social cohesion in the city on the 77th anniversary of the Constitution. We are raising the following questions:
What does the Basic Law have to do with our everyday lives? What values underpin a democratic society? And how can we work together to foster a sense of community?
The day of action brings together academia, civil society and the wider community, creating space for encounters and exchange. With workshops, talks and hands-on activities, the event invites participants to learn more, join the discussion and gain new perspectives on the significance of civic engagement and democratic values in Bochum.
